With snow forecast, Rachel couldn't believe her fortune when the sun shone down on Snetterton for the first outing of the season in her brand new Ginetta G50 Cup-spec machine.
Having collected the car from Ginetta's base in Leeds 10 days previously, Team GCR had worked tirelessly to prep the car to perfection to ensure nothing would interrupt Rachel's track time to build confidence with the car and learn to understand its behaviour before pre-season testing begins in earnest.
Her first experience of the team's technical experience with the car was hugely encouraging with the car not putting a foot wrong all day. With regard to the G50 itself, RG began to smile almost as soon as she started putting some laps down, particularly when a set of (old!) slicks went on after the damp, slippy surface, typical of a cold English morning, had dried.
An open pit lane format and barely a dozen cars testing allowed Rachel to clock up some serious miles and having started cautiously, she ended the day around 12 seconds quicker than she had begun and based on last year's times at the Snetterton G50 Cup rounds, well on course to be competing at the front of the field by the time the season begins.
Rachel's next outing will be a pre-season test session at Thruxton on 19th February, the circuit where the G50 Cup will kick off its season on the Easter weekend.
